Where I Look For Reviews On Graphic Cards

Electronics and Gadgets are becoming increasingly expensive these days, and I try not to spend my hard earned money on something inferior. This is why I read reviews from users who have tried them out first hand so I have an idea on what I should buy. There is a site I go to for technology reviews called TestFreaks.com. It has the latest reviews from both users and industry experts so opinions are covered on both ends. I find the graphic card review section extremely useful for my site and they also offer reviews on motherboards and monitors. The rating for each product is pretty spot on and I find the site extremely easy to navigate around. Take a look at the site and you’ll see why I have it bookmarked.

GeForce GTX 280 is the Fastest Video Card This Summer

Add to Onlywire

The new king of the GPU scene is here in the Nvidia Geforce GTX 280. Some note worthy features included in this card.

It is PhysX Ready

Remember the Physics hardware a couple of years back? It is now built into Nvidia’s newest video cards. You might need to upgrade the physics firmware from time to time, but that’s just semantics.

3-Way Nvidia SLI technology

If you have the money, and you absolutely need the fastest gaming hardware available, then install three GTX 280s onto your motherboard. Just make sure you have a strong enough power supply.

Nvidia CUDA technology

What this does is turn the Video card’s GPU into something of a CPU to perform CPU tasks such as video encoding.

Here are the stock specs of the GTX 280:

  • Processor Cores: 280
  • Processor Clock: 1.3 ghz
  • Core Clock: 602 mzh
  • Memory: 1 gig
  • Memory Clock: 2.2 ghz (DDR)
  • Memory Interface 512 bit

BFG, XFX, PNY, EVGA, Gigabyte and ASUS have all come out with their GTX 280s and they are available on Newegg.com

Just Ordered My PS3 Metal Gear Solid 4 Bundle

metal gear solid 4 bundle

I just ordered my Playstation 3 Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle at New Egg. They finally got it in stock and I ordered it a few minutes ago (June 12th, 10:20 pm). Dunno how much of these bundle packs they have left, but I wasn’t going to wait. I have avoided any reviews so far on the MSG 4 game so I can play without knowing the spoilers.

Cheaper Laptops Can Play Crysis These Days

Asus M51Sn-X2 with a 9500m GS

It was only last year you needed to shell out well over 2 grand to buy a laptop with specs that can play Crysis on mid-high settings with a decent framerate. Rejoice, folks. Now you can play that resource hogging PC game with laptops that are more affordable, like the Asus M51Sn-X2 NoteBook. It cost about $1,199 which is a very respectable price for a new gaming laptop. It comes with a Nvidia 9500M GS, Nvidia’s newest mobile gaming video card.

Here are some crucial stats for the Asus M51Sn-X2

  • Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 2.4G
  • 4 GIGs of DDR Ram
  • 250 GIG HD
  • 15.4 WXGA screen
  • Nvidia 9500M GS with 512 MB of memory.

The laptop can handle Bioshock, COD 4 and Crysis, quite well. For more information on this gaming laptop and for user reviews, remember to check out NewEgg’s Asus M51Sn-X2 page.

The Best Deal For a GeForce 9800 GTX at the moment

 BFG GeForce 9800 GTX

Okay, so we all know the GeForce 9800 GTX is the hottest video card right now. But which third-party brand has the best deal going? It has got to be the BFG GeForce 9800 GTX at NewEgg.com. They are offering a mail-in rebate of $30 so it will cost $259.99 after the rebate. You can’t beat that price, not even on Ebay. Go on Ebay and take a look…you can’t find any 9800 GTX models there for $260 or under! Add to the fact that BFG is one of the best in the business and with their 10 year warranty on all the video cards they manufacture, it is indeed pretty sweet. The rebate deal ends after May, so if you want to pick up a 9800 gtx anytime soon, this should be the time. Don’t expect a price drop across the board for the 9800 GTXs until maybe around the end of summer.

The 9800 GTX getting good reviews on NewEgg.

EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX

The Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX so far has been a hit with the consumers. Reviews are coming in from buyers on NewEgg that the video card performs exceptionally well. And this is especially the case for EVGA’s 9800 GTX which already has over 115 reviews and the majority of the reviews rate the graphics card as excellent or good. The reviews are saying that the card is able to handle Crysis on its highest settings, which is good to hear, because we thought it would take a couple of years for a video card to do that.

Crysis played with two 9800 GX2s in Quad SLI mode!

Crysis 9800 gx2

One 9800 GX2 is pretty damn fast, but two of them in SLI is where it’s at. Tweaktown performed benchmark tests on the 9800 GX2 in Quad SLI with Crysis, and at the “Very High” Graphics settings, Crysis ran at a respectable 41.96 FPS. At the “high” settings which many players are using right now, it ran at 60 FPS. So using all four cores, that is about as good as it gets for Crysis without overclocking at the present time. Keep in mind that the Quad SLI Vista Drivers have not been released to the public yet, so if you happen have a pair of 9800 GX2s (haha, yeah right) you will have to wait until next week.

  • EVGA
  • BFG
  • XFX
  • PNY

The specs are pretty much all the same. They all have 1 combined gig of DDR3 ram, all clocked at 600mhz. Click here to see NewEgg’s 9800 GX2 page.

CNET Likes The Asus 9600 GT

asus 9600 gt

Cnet, known for their harsh ratings, gave the Asus GeForce 9600 GT an 8.0 Rating.  They say it is one of the best valued mid-range graphics card to come around in quite sometime and also stated that it has a “Faster performance than anything from ATI in this price range”.  The only thing they griped about was that you still need to hook up an audio passthru cable to get sound when using an HDMI connection which is but a minor problem.  So score one for Asus and Nvidia.  The Asus GeForce En9600GT gets Cnet’s Editor’s choice award.

Creator of Doom Thinks Ageia was Scum

 John Carmack

John Carmack, who helped made 1st person shooters what they are today with legendary titles like Doom and Quake, criticizes the founders of Ageia in an interview with PC Perspective.  Ageia was a company that developed Physics processors and was taken over by Nvidia earlier in year.  Carmack believes that Ageia was started from the beginning with the sole purpose of being bought out by a bigger company.  The market for physics engine hardware was non existent and all signs point to future GPUs being able to compute physics processing, but Ageia went ahead with their plan anyway with the intention of cashing out as their end game.  So John Carmack didn’t exactly say that Ageia was scum, but you know that was what he was probably thinking.
